Baby Toes Ballet

3 years - 5 years

Specially designed classes to develop motor skills, creativity and musical awareness.

Baby Toes classes were set up in 1991 with the establishment of the Hawthorn Studio of Dance. The classes developed by Miss Sargison use a range of classical music and nursery rhymes specifically designed for the 3 to 5 year age groups. The class is a follow the leader format where the shy child can be absorbed into the group and the more outgoing personality can progress with more confidence.

The classes help develop motor skills, creativity, musical awareness as well as being lots of fun. These classes bring a small degree of discipline with a formal uniform and encouragement of neat grooming. The classes are closed for viewing so the teacher can command full concentration. Parents and friends are invited to watch the last class of each term so the progress, and sense of performance can be established. All children will have had their 3rd birthday to participate in the 3 year-old class and 4th birthday for the 4 year age classes. "Jump and Jive" Boys only classes are available on Saturday afternoons.

All students have the opportunity to perform on stage at a mid-year concert. This is not compulsory and it is entirely up to the individual child as to whether they feel ready to perform on stage.

Classical ballet is the foundation of all the dance forms and is encouraged to be taken throughout the training of the young dancer. Formal technical training starts at 6 years of age when there is more understanding of body awareness. These classes called Preliminary 1 and 2 can be studied at the Hawthorn Studio of Dance and can be taken through to the senior levels of the Royal Academy of Dance. Examinations are also available.

Due to the high demand bookings are essential.
